The European Commission announced that a provisional political agreement had been reached between the European Parliament and the Council on targeted changes to the EUDR. The purpose of these changes is:
👉 Providing clarity and predictability to businesses
👉 Reducing IT system load
👉 Making the transition to implementation seamless
The main objective of the EUDR is to ensure that certain products entering the EU market do not cause deforestation and deforestation.
🌍 Why is it important?
About 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from deforestation.
🌳 According to FAO data, 420 million hectares of forest were destroyed between 1990 and 2020 (an area larger than the EU area).

✅ Conveniences and Changes Introduced
1. Reducing IT System Load
The data load that strains IT systems will be reduced. The processing of due diligence statements will be faster and more reliable.
2. Simplification in the Supply Chain
Lower-tier buyers and traders will not file due diligence statements. The reference number will not be passed on-chain. Only the "first buyer" will enter the declaration number into the system.
3. Convenience for Micro and Small Producers
For micro/small primary producers in low-risk countries, a one-time simplified declaration will suffice. If the data is available in EU or national databases, these businesses can be completely exempt from the declaration.
4. Excluded Products
Books, newspapers and printed materials are no longer covered by the EUDR.
📉 Administrative Burden Reduction
According to the EU Commission estimate, these simplifications:
It will provide a 30% reduction in administrative costs and workload for companies.
🏛️ The Next Step in the Process
The European Parliament and the Council will formally approve the amendments.
After approval, the regulation will come into force.
